Our Work Together
Worthy Coaching Sessions are for all families! We work to help you create a body positive environment in your home with a focus on your children.
We also have a new curriculum for soon-to-be parents so that they can prepare their body positive home before they bring their little one home.
Worthy's holistic approach includes topics such as: How do I create a body positive or body neutral environment in my home? What is fat-shaming and how does it affect me and my family? How do we set productive boundaries to talk about body size and shape? What is a healthiest weight? How and when do I discuss weight difference with my child?
Our Time Together
A commitment of 60 minutes per week for 8 weeks is optimal for making a body positive home that will help create an environment for children to be their healthiest weight.
We will assess your families needs, find the right tools and resources that work with your family's lifestyle, and we will help you make a plan to sustain a body positive home.
JoAnn Stevelos, MS, MPH
As a Public Health Professional I have directed the NYS Center for Best Practices to Prevent Childhood Obesity, evaluated the Alliance for a Healthier Generation’s children’s school wellness programs, and evaluated Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move program. I enjoy sharing what I have learned to help parents of children who have gained too much weight too fast to feel confident in helping their children feel safe at home, at school, and at the doctors office. I am also trained in pediatric ethics with a focus on pediatric obesity interventions.
I hold an MS in Bioethics from Albany Medical College, an MPH from the State University of New York, and a BA from Columbia University in Liberal Arts. The Guardian, Albany Times Union, Scholastic Magazine, The Daily Show, CNN, and academic books have referenced my work.
Specialties: Public Health, Monitoring and Evaluation, Global Health, Mixed Methods Research, Childhood Obesity Prevention, Child Sexual Abuse Prevention, Type 2 Diabetes Prevention, Research and Writing, and Bioethics (pediatrics as it pertains to childhood obesity interventions).
